View of Raritan Bay, NJ on September 29, 2012

The clouds on this day never really cleared.  It was mostly cloudy throughout the day with hardly any sunshine.  The clouds were at times dark and threatening, especially to the east over Staten Island and near sunset the clouds appeared to lift and allow for more sunshine. The sun's rays were particularly fabulous near the horizon around 5:30 p.m. on this day. The dominant cloud types were cumulus, cumulus humilis, nimbostratus, stratocumulus and cumulonimbus.

Thundershower Over Raritan Bay, NJ on August 27, 2012

This was a day with heavy rain showers and thunderstorms in the late morning but then the sun was shining in the afternoon with a good breeze.  A few scattered showers developed around 4 PM when these photos were taken.  It became warm and humid in the late afternoon and evening.  There is a chance of a few thunderstorms tomorrow with sunshine later in the week.

Severe Thunderstorm Event in New York City, Connecticut, Southeast NY and New Jersey on July 25, 2012

A line of severe thunderstorms moved across northern NJ, NYC, CT and Long Island during the early evening of July 25, 2012.  These photos were taken in Midtown Manhattan just as the storms were moving into the city. The lightning was frequent and one bolt struck a chuch in Brooklyn killing a man on the street with a brick.  Trees were reported down in Locust Valley Long Island and in parts of Connecticut.

Sunset Photos Taken on June 25, 2012 in Central New Jersey...

A cold front has just passed and a few showers were moving to the east.  A refreshing breeze from the northwest made for a fantastic evening.  It was cool and crisp at night with lows near 60.  These clouds are predominantly altocumulus with some pink cumulus congestus in the lower horizon looking east.

Sunset Photos Taken in Point Pleasant Beach at Manasquan Inlet, June 2012

These photos were taken near sunset in June 2012.  The white line is a contrail from a jet aircraft.  Sunsets at the shore can be spectacular.

Ice Crystal Refraction and Sunshine with Cumulus Clouds, May 2012 in Central New Jersey

These photos were taken with high cirrus clouds (composed of ice crystals) and lower level cumulus clouds (composed of water droplets) present.  The sunlight is refracted into rainbow-like colors by the cirrus ice crystals.
